VAZHAKKAI PUDINA VARUVAL / RAW BANANA MINT ROAST

Raw banana, the yummy vegetable. Pan fried vazhakkai is the best side dish for most of the of the rice varieties (lemon rice and curd rice)  and even with all traditional kuzhambu varieties. I prefer to cook most of the vegetables with less oil in a pan, healthy and delicious. This time I tried to make varuval with pudina/mint marination.  




Ingredients : 

For Marination : 

  • Mint leaves - 1/2 cup 
  • Green chillies - 3 nos 
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch 
  • Garlic - 1 no 
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp 
  • Chilli Powder - 1 tsp 
  • Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp 
  • Salt for taste 


For roast : 
  • Sliced Raw banana / Vazhakkai - 1 no 
  • Curry leaves - 1 string 
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp 
  • Coconut oil - 3 Tsp 

Method : 


  • Peel off the skin of the raw banana, slice them into equal sized pieces 
  • In a mixer, add the mint leaves, chilli and ginger
  • To this add salt required for the roast 
  • Add Turmeric powder 
  • Add Chilli powder and cumin powder 
  • Grind them together into a fine paste 
  • Add this paste to the sliced raw banana and mix well 
  • Leave this marination for 10-15 minutes 
  • In a pan, pour in coconut oil. Temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves 
  • Place the marinated raw banana over the pan and roast them on both sides on medium flame 
  • Serve hot
